One of the biggest obstacles to our spiritual path is our ego.
The ego is that part of ourselves whose sole purpose is to keep us alive. The best and most effective way to do this is the ego's effort to keep you the same. Typically, anything that might promote change is immediately and effectively beaten back by the ego until it no longer exists.
The best way your ego represents itself during your spiritual journey is by downplaying or squelching your intuition. Self-doubt, fear, skepticism, low self-confidence are powerful tools your ego uses to try to stop you from listening to your intuitive self and therefore prohibits you from connecting to your true divinity.
The more you understand the ego and how its function is to keep you from progressing, the better you can notice it when it creeps in and appreciate it but not take it too seriously.
As you set intentions and go about your life, see if you can notice when your internal dialog wants to hijack you and prevent you from changing or evolving.
Ask yourself:
What is my internal dialog? Do you hear yourself telling yourself that whatever it is you’re thinking can’t be done? Do you hear yourself coming up with obstacles as to why it can’t be done? That you don’t have the time, the energy, the money, the inclination to execute what you’re thinking or dreaming about?
There it is. The sneaky ego trying to talk you out of changing and evolving, of doing the things you dream of doing.
Your meditation practice is the best way to help you create the noticing muscle you need to more readily catch your ego when it tries to sabotage you and keep you small.
